Traditional Coopering Methods Used I use traditional coopering methods to make each item. For the staves I use sassafrass wood, although with special orders I can provide cherry, black walnut, and red cedar. Hoops may be either steam bent white oak with a locked latch or metal with rivets. All items are finished with a blend of mineral oil (butcher block oil)  and beeswax and are therefore food safe.
